The National Youth Service (NYS) has warned prospective recruits against fraudulent individuals circulating fake calling letters promising salaries and allowances.

The warning follows the circulation of fake letters purporting to invite successful candidates to report to the NYS Paramilitary Training College in Gilgil by Wednesday, July 29.

NYS stamped one such letter with a “FAKE” mark and shared it online as part of efforts to alert the public and prevent prospective recruits from falling victim to fraudsters.

The service said the scam was targeting candidates who recently attended interviews for cadet and private recruitment.

“The National Youth Service wishes to alert the public, particularly candidates who recently attended interviews for cadet and private recruitment at the NYS, that fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated and are continuously developing new methods to exploit unsuspecting individuals,” the service said.

NYS urged candidates and members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid individuals claiming to represent the service or facilitate recruitment.

The service said all official communication is issued exclusively through its verified channels.

It also cautioned the public against sending money, registration fees or personal information to unauthorised individuals claiming to be involved in the recruitment process.

“Any suspicious messages, calls, or approaches should be reported immediately through our official contact channels,” NYS said.

The service said the advisory was intended to protect the public, safeguard the integrity of NYS recruitment and prevent individuals from being exploited through fraudulent schemes.

The warning comes as prospective recruits await official communication on the outcome of the recruitment process, creating an opportunity for fraudsters to target candidates with fake appointment and reporting instructions.

NYS advised candidates to verify any recruitment-related communication through its official channels before taking action or sharing personal details.
