Motor vehicle crashes caused nearly 20 million injuries and over 518,000 deaths worldwide in 2023, according to a new Lancet Public Health report. Pedestrians accounted for almost one-third of all road deaths, while motorcyclists represented nearly a quarter of fatalities despite fewer crashes. Researchers are calling for targeted safety measures to protect vulnerable road users.
