The government has launched a mop-up disarmament exercise in parts of Tana River County to recover at least 10 illegal firearms held by residents, in a bid to curb insecurity and prevent inter-clan violence. By Friday, one gun had been voluntarily surrendered, leaving nine unaccounted for. County Commissioner Joseph Mwangi has directed chiefs and their assistants to ensure all remaining weapons are surrendered by next Monday.
