'I still can't believe any adult can fabricate such a story'
Kenyan musician Bahati has condemned a viral video that falsely accused him of being involved in the killing of young girls, describing the claims as defamatory and created purely to attract attention online.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page, the singer expressed shock over the allegations, saying he could not understand why someone would create such a serious accusation for views and engagement on social media.

"I have watched this video with utter shock. I still can't believe that any adult can fabricate such a defamatory story for likes, attention, and viewership. This is wrong in all ways!"
Bahati said the content crossed the line, arguing that there should be limits to the pursuit of online clout.
Challenges creator to provide evidence
The musician said the video directly portrayed him as a murderer and challenged its creator to either provide evidence supporting the allegations or reveal who was behind the claims.
"In simple words, he called me a murderer! So, we have been murdering people in all these counties, and no one has been reported missing?"

He added:
"You either take us where the bodies are buried or tell us who sent you to attack me! I will not let this just slide!"
Bahati maintained that allegations of such a serious nature should be backed by credible evidence rather than speculation shared online.
Calls on churches and media to verify information
The singer also addressed New Life Church and Pastor Ezekiel, saying he respects the church and the pulpit but urged religious institutions and media platforms to verify information before publishing it.
"I respect churches and the holy pulpit as it is sacred."
He continued:
"To Mr Ezekiel and the New Life Church posters; I respect you but don't allow your church to be a place for creating silly headlines!"
Bahati further urged the church and its television station to exercise caution when publishing information about individuals.

The musician warned that he intends to pursue legal action over the matter, saying false accusations can damage a person's reputation and brand.
"Let's meet in court!"
While describing himself as a forgiving person, Bahati insisted that there must be accountability when false information is spread.
"I am a very forgiving person, but we all agree it's wrong to lie at the expense of someone's brand and name."
He concluded his statement by asking his followers how they believed the matter should be handled.
