SHA headquarters in Nairobi/ FILEThe Social Health Authority (SHA) has temporarily suspended a top city hospital from its panel of contracted healthcare providers pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
In a public notice dated June 24, SHA said the suspension took effect on June 23 and affects services offered under four schemes: the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
The notice was signed by SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi, who said the authority remains committed to safeguarding access to quality and accountable healthcare services.
“SHA appreciates the cooperation and understanding of beneficiaries and stakeholders and remains committed to safeguarding access to quality and accountable healthcare services,” Mwangangi said.
SHA did not disclose the nature of the investigations and did not indicate when the suspension would be lifted, stating only that the measure would remain in place pending the outcome of the ongoing probe.
“The Social Health Authority (SHA) informs beneficiaries and the public that a hospital has been temporarily suspended from the SHA panel of contracted healthcare providers, with effect from 23 June 2026, pending the conclusion of investigations,” the authority said in the notice.
The authority, however, assured beneficiaries already admitted to the hospital before the suspension that they will continue receiving care until they complete their current episode of treatment and are discharged.
Patients seeking new admissions, follow-up treatment or other services during the suspension period have been advised to seek care from other SHA-contracted healthcare providers.
“To ensure a seamless transition and continuity of care, our beneficiaries already admitted at the facility before the suspension date shall continue receiving care till completion of their current episode of care and discharge,” the authority said.
SHA said beneficiaries can access the list of contracted facilities through its website and the Afya Yangu platform. Those requiring assistance with continuity of care or referrals have been advised to contact the authority through its toll-free number, 147.
The suspension will primarily affect patients seeking new admissions, follow-up appointments and other healthcare services covered under SHA programmes.
SHA advised affected beneficiaries to seek treatment from other healthcare facilities contracted under the authority during the suspension period.
The authority said the list of contracted healthcare providers remains available through its official website and the Afya Yangu platform to help beneficiaries identify alternative facilities.
“Beneficiaries requiring new admissions, follow-up treatment or other services during the suspension period are advised to seek care from other SHA-contracted healthcare providers,” the notice stated.
