Bodybuilder Gachau Njoroge has finally broken his silence regarding the dramatic events of Saturday night. The athlete was rushed to the hospital following a brutal sixth-round knockout by Phil Castro during the highly anticipated Vurugu 2 fight.
Speaking on the Obinna Show, Gachau detailed the physical toll of the bout and the medical emergency that followed. What began as a confident display of strength ended with the fighter fighting for his breath in the back of an ambulance.
The Medical Emergency
Following the knockout, Gachau was initially attended to by medics at the scene before being transported to Avenue Hospital. He revealed that his vital signs were in a critical state upon arrival.
Medical staff found that his oxygen saturation was dangerously low, while his heart rate and blood pressure were extremely high. Gachau explained that he was suffering from hypoxia, a condition where the body is deprived of an adequate oxygen supply at the tissue level.
He underwent several CT scans to check for internal bleeding in his liver, spleen, and brain. Fortunately, the tests came back clear, confirming there was no permanent internal damage.
"I Was Only Aware Until Round Three"
Perhaps the most shocking revelation was Gachau’s lack of memory regarding the latter half of the fight. He stated that he felt in control and "confident" during the opening rounds.
He followed his coach's strategy of using jabs to tire out his opponent.
However, his mental clarity began to fade rapidly after the third round. By the time he reached rounds five and six, he was operating on pure instinct, with no memory of his actions in the ring.

Gachau pointed to a specific moment in the later rounds that he believes sealed his fate. He claims he received an "illegal punch" while he was already down. He felt the impact at the back of his head, which he says caused his system to check out.
Future in the Ring
The scare has led to a significant decision regarding his sporting career. Gachau’s family, including his wife who was present at the fight, expressed deep concern over his condition.
When asked if he would return to boxing, Gachau was firm. He plans to return to his roots in bodybuilding and will not be stepping back into the boxing ring for another fight.
