Kenyan travel vlogger Miss Trudy has shared a moving Father's Day tribute to her Ghanaian husband, Wode Maya. She praised his persistence after the couple endured years of heartbreak and multiple miscarriages.
Writing to her millions of followers on Instagram, Trudy revealed the private pain Maya faced during previous years. She described how he used to "hide" on Father’s Day because the couple was struggling to conceive.
"Last year I remember you said someone wished you a happy Father’s Day, and you felt so sad because no one understands what men who want to be fathers in vain go through," she shared.
A Testimony of Resilience
Trudy’s recent Father's Day message highlighted how much their lives have changed since the birth. She thanked her husband for never giving up on the dream of becoming a dad despite the "many years" of waiting.
A Long Road to Parenthood
The couple's journey began in September 2021. At that time, doctors informed them that having children might not be possible. Despite the bleak outlook, Wode Maya proposed to Trudy just three months later in December 2021.
They married in September 2022. This date was emotionally significant as it marked 13 years since the passing of Trudy’s mother. However, their early years of marriage were defined by repeated loss.
Six Heartbreaking Losses
The vloggers eventually shared that they had experienced six miscarriages over several years. Trudy admitted the emotional toll was immense and left her feeling depressed.
The cause was later identified as a medical condition. Maya explained in an interview that Trudy was diagnosed with a bicornuate, or "heart-shaped" womb. This meant that while she could conceive, the baby could not grow to full term.
"Anytime the baby grows bigger, the heart-shaped womb suppresses the baby and brings the baby out," Maya explained.
Trudy underwent corrective surgery in Ghana to address the issue.
The couple’s fortunes changed in 2025 when they became pregnant for the seventh time. To ensure the safety of the pregnancy, Maya flew Trudy to the United States when she was six months pregnant.
Their doctor in Ghana recommended the move so they could access advanced life-saving equipment. After years of silence and "insane" challenges, they welcomed their baby in early 2026.
The celebration comes as Trudy also marks other personal milestones. She recently acquired a two-bedroom apartment in Nairobi named Amara. She noted that the journey to securing the home took just over two years, paralleling the timeline of her path to motherhood.
