Nurse Judy, a Kenyan nurse residing in the United States, has broken her silence regarding online critics. Social media users have recently compared her marriage to the plot of the South African Netflix series, The Polygamist.
The influencer and healthcare professional took to her Instagram stories to issue a lengthy rebuttal. She addressed those who have likened her life to the show’s characters, Joyce and Matipa, while calling her husband Jonasi.
Life Imitating Art?
The controversy began when fans of the drama series started drawing parallels between the show’s fictional betrayals and Judy’s real-life relationship.
“I've seen blogs, forwarded videos, screenshots, my comment sections, and enough think pieces to last me a lifetime. Apparently, I'm now Joyce. In some casesI'm Matipa. My husband is Jonasi. The casting directors are working overtime,” she posted.
She expressed fascination that a chapter of her life she has already spoken about is being used to hold her hostage. Judy clarified that her real-life experience is "a complete diff experience" from what is portrayed in the television programme.

A History of Separations
To set the record straight, Judy provided a timeline of her marital struggles. She revealed that she and her husband separated twice between 2021 and 2024. During those years, she stated that they both dated other people and hurt each other.
“For the umpteenth time, we owned our mistakes. We separated, not once but twice btwn year 2021 and 2024. We moved on. We dated other people. We hurt each other. We forgave each other. God forgave us too. So, what exactly is the blackmail here?”
Despite the friction, Judy emphasized that they have done the hard work of healing. She mentioned that they have forgiven each other and moved forward.
"Mimi na mtu wangu ndio tunajua the conversations we've had, the forgiveness we've extended each other, and the healing we've done."
Addressing the Child Conceived During Separation
One of the most discussed points online involves a child conceived while the couple was apart. Judy addressed this head-on, confirming the child was conceived during a period of separation.
She stated that she chooses to advocate for and support the child, regardless of the circumstances of her birth. Judy referred to her as "my children's sister," a status she says will not change even if she and her husband were to divorce today. She urged "bitter women" to find something new to fight her about.

Judy concluded her response by telling her "loudest judges" that their own lives are often messier than hers. She argued that the only difference is that her mistakes happened in public while theirs happened in private.
The nurse made it clear that the online commentary would not change her behaviour. She intends to keep watching the show, discussing current topics, and being as vocal as ever.
"But one thing you will not do is shame me into silence... I will be loud as usual while at it, and I will still sleep very well at night."
She ended her statement by telling her critics to "carry on," noting that she remains at peace with her truth.
