Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has joined the growing list of Kenyan celebrities weighing in on Netflix’s latest hit, The Polygamist. However, she has a very specific—and funny—condition before she hits the play button.
The politician took to social media to reveal that she has yet to watch the South African drama. When asked about the trending show, Nyamu joked that she would only tune in if the legendary Kenyan movie commentator, DJ Afro, provided the voice-over.
"Wacha tuelewane, hio poligamist yenu nita watch DJ Afro akitangaza," Nyamu shared with her followers.
Referencing DJ Afro’s signature style of humorous, fast-paced vernacular dubbing, she added the famous catchphrase, "Alraiitar, kuliletwa mojinga," much to the amusement of her fans.
Milly WaJesus Prioritises ‘Marital Duties’
Nyamu is not the only high-profile Kenyan skipping the binge-watch. Content creator Milly WaJesus has also sparked a debate by stating she has no plans to watch the series. For Milly, the issue is one of time management for those in committed relationships.
She questioned how married individuals over the age of 30 find the hours to sit through a long series. Instead of watching television, she suggested that couples focus on rest or their own "marital activities."
Backing her stance, her husband Kabi WaJesus agreed, while Milly finished the discussion with a firm declaration: “As for me & my house, we shall be monogamous.”
Jimal Rohosafi’s Brutal 1/10 Rating
While some choose not to watch, businessman Jimal Rohosafi did—and he was far from impressed. Jimal, whose personal life has often been compared to the drama seen in such shows, gave the production a scathing review.
Despite the show sitting at the top of the Netflix charts since its release on 12 June 2026, Jimal dismissed it as overhyped. He shared a brief post on his Instagram stories, giving the series a bottom-of-the-barrel rating.
"The polygamist on Netflix is overhyped 1/10 🤨," Jimal posted.
His critique is particularly notable given his public history with complex relationship dynamics, including his highly publicised marriage to second wife Amber Ray while still married to his first wife, Amira, in 2021.
What is ‘The Polygamist’ All About?
The show causing all this stir is a 22-episode "supernovela" adaptation of Sue Nyathi’s 2012 novel. It is Netflix's first South African production of this scale, blending high-gloss production with uncomfortable social themes.
The plot reveals his relationships with a second wife, a mistress, and a girlfriend, culminating in a chaotic explosion of revenge and family fallout. Since its debut, the series has forced viewers to debate whether the lead character represents traditional polygamy or "predatory" behaviour.
