Tanzanian music sensation Zuchu has opened up about her future beyond the recording studio. The Bongo Flava star revealed that she dreams of trading the limelight for a quiet life as a stay-at-home mother and businesswoman.
Speaking in an extensive interview with Wasafi FM, the "Sukari" hitmaker shared her personal ambitions for family life. She admitted that her perspective on work and home has shifted significantly as her career has progressed.
Family Over Fame
Zuchu, whose real name is Zuhura Othman Kopa, explained that her life has been a whirlwind of activity. She moved directly from her studies into the demanding world of the music industry. This constant work cycle has left her longing for a different kind of experience.
"I think I’m eager to be a stay-at-home wife and do business that will continue the legacy of my family. I want to be a good wife, mother and stay completely at home because that’s the only thing I’m yet to experience," she told the interviewers.
The "Ten Children" Debate
The interview took a light-hearted turn when discussing the size of her future family. Zuchu revealed a significant difference in opinion between her and her partner regarding how many children they should have.
According to the singer, her partner is keen on a very large family.
"My husband wants 10 children," she revealed. However, Zuchu is leaning towards a more modest number, stating her personal preference is to have just two.
While the timing is ultimately "in God’s hands," she made it clear that her priority is being present for her children. She dreams of travelling with her husband and kids once she retires from the music scene.
Moving Away from Politics
Growing up as the daughter of the legendary Taarab singer Khadija Kopa, many expected Zuchu to follow her mother’s footsteps into the political arena. Khadija Kopa has long been a visible figure in Tanzanian politics.
Zuchu admitted that she did once harbour political ambitions. However, she confirmed that those dreams are now firmly in the past.
"I once had the dream of being a politician, but it died," she said.
She described politics as a war that would occupy too much of her time. As she grows older, she says she values her peace and the ability to live her life more fully outside of public scrutiny.
Although she plans to step away from music one day, Zuchu does not intend to be idle. She plans to transition into the world of business to ensure her family is well-provided for.
Her goal is to build a legacy that will support future generations. She wants to create businesses so that her children won't have to struggle and can see that their mother built a foundation for them.
