The South African drama The Polygamist has sparked a massive conversation across social media since its release.
While many viewers are binge-watching the series, Kenyan businessman Jimal Rohosafi has offered a different perspective.
His reaction comes just hours after content creator Pritty Vishy shared her own emotional review of the show.
A Harsh Rating from Jimal
Jimal took to his Instagram stories to share a brief but brutal assessment of the trending series. Despite the show sitting at the top of the charts for many, the businessman was unimpressed. He shared a simple post that left no room for doubt about his feelings.
"The polygamist on Netflix is overhyped 1/10 🤨."
His low rating stands in contrast to the global buzz the show has generated since its debut on 12 June 2026. Jimal’s commentary is particularly notable given his own well-documented history with complex relationship dynamics in the public eye.
Jimal Rohosafi first became a household name due to his high-profile relationship with socialite Amber Ray. He married her as a second wife while still married to his first wife, Amira.
This highly publicized relationship drama began in early 2021. This period was marked by intense public scrutiny and social media drama.
Tensions reached a boiling point at their Syokimau estate at around June that year when the co-wives were involved in a massive, public altercation after Amber Ray went live on Instagram, accusing Amira of showing up to her house to insult her.
The relationship eventually crumbled. The fallout was so significant that Amber Ray famously documented the removal of a tattoo she had of Jimal. The turmoil continued until his first wife, Amira, also decided to leave the marriage.
Months later, Jimal introduced another woman by the name Wangari Thiong’o. These real-life events have often seen Jimal compared to characters in dramas exploring multi-partner households.
Pritty Vishy’s Contrasting View
While Jimal focused on the production’s "hype," Pritty Vishy’s review was more personal. She focused on the lead character, Jonasi Gomora, and the impact of his actions on the women in his life. Vishy issued a stark warning to her followers about the dangers of staying with serial cheaters.
"Ladies, in most cases a Jonas doesn't die as Joyce does."
She urged women to love themselves enough to walk away from toxic cycles. Vishy also revealed that the show’s themes did not "traumatise" her because she grew up with a father who behaved like the lead character.
The Polygamist is a 22-episode adaptation of Sue Nyathi’s 2012 novel. It is Netflix's first South African supernovela, combining high-gloss production with uncomfortable social truths.
The story begins at the funeral of Jonasi Gomora, a wealthy CEO played by Sdumo Mtshali. While he appeared to have a perfect family with his influencer wife, Joyce, his death reveals a web of lies.
He left behind a second wife, a mistress, and a girlfriend, leading to an empire-ending explosion of revenge and chaos.
The series continues to trend globally, forcing viewers to debate whether the lead character represents true polygamy or simply "predatory" behaviour.
