Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condoled with Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Agnes Kagure following the death of her mother, Mary Wangui Mwangi.

In a statement, Gachagua joined the family in mourning, describing the loss as painful and extended his sympathies to Kagure during the period of grief.

“It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the demise of Mama Mary Wangui Mwangi, mother of Agnes Kagure,” he said.

Gachagua described the late Mary Wangui as a devoted matriarch who played a key role in her community and upheld strong values centered on family and service.

He noted that she was committed to the well-being of those around her and believed in the importance of education and community development.

“Mama Mary was a loving matriarch and a committed member of the communities she lived in. She believed in education and a better society for all Kenyans,” he said.

The former deputy president further praised her service to both family and church, saying her contributions would be remembered beyond her passing.

“Her service to her family and church remains strong even in her demise,” he added.

Gachagua expressed his condolences to Kagure and her family, urging them to find strength during the difficult period and praying for comfort.

“My deepest sympathies to Agnes Kagure and her family at this painful moment of grief. Mama Mary, rest in eternal peace and may God grant her His mercy and everlasting life,” he said.

Kagure, a politician and Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful, had earlier announced the passing of her mother in a heartfelt message in which she described her as her mentor, friend, and role model.

She said the late Mary Wangui had a profound influence on her life, shaping her values through guidance, prayers, and sacrifices.

She described her mother as a woman of strength and love whose guidance and sacrifices helped shape her character and journey.

"She was a woman of great strength, faith, wisdom, and love whose presence shaped my life and many others' in countless ways. Her prayers, guidance, and sacrifices will forever remain part of who I am," she said.

The family has not disclosed the cause of death as of the time of publication.

Kagure also asked for privacy and prayers as the family comes to terms with the loss.

"As a family, we ask for your prayers, comfort, and privacy during this difficult time," Kagure said, adding, "Rest in power, my role model."
