KCB has committed Sh3 million towards the second edition of the Run 4 Seniors charity event, boosting efforts to support vulnerable elderly people through healthcare, nutrition and social welfare programmes.
The annual charity run, organised by Mama Ibado Charity (MIC), is scheduled for July 18 at Karura Forest in Nairobi and is expected to bring together corporates, families, fitness enthusiasts and well-wishers in support of senior citizens.
The sponsorship was unveiled during a handover ceremony held in Nairobi on Thursday, with organisers hailing the contribution as a major endorsement of efforts aimed at improving the lives of older persons.
Run 4 Seniors Chairman Moses Mwangi said the sponsorship demonstrates the growing role of the private sector in supporting vulnerable members of society.
“This sponsorship is a strong statement that our senior citizens matter. Through Run 4 Seniors, we are not only promoting healthy living and community engagement, but also rallying society to support the dignity, care and wellbeing of older persons,” said Mwangi.
The charity run seeks to raise awareness and mobilise resources for the welfare, healthcare and dignity of senior citizens, particularly those facing economic and social challenges.
Mama Ibado Charity President Ahmed Jibril said funds raised through the event will help strengthen programmes focused on healthcare access, nutrition support, psychosocial care and community outreach for elderly people.
“As we age, health challenges become inevitable. For seniors who struggle to afford basic necessities such as food, accessing healthcare can become an overwhelming hurdle. Our Seniors Healthcare Program seeks to bridge this gap by providing the comprehensive and multidisciplinary care they need,” said Jibril.
According to the organisation, its Seniors Feeding Program has provided food support to more than 2,000 senior citizens over the years, positively impacting over 5,000 household members under their care.
KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo said the bank’s support reflects its commitment to improving the wellbeing and inclusion of older persons.
“At KCB, we believe that a caring society is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable members. Our sponsorship of the second edition of the Run 4 Seniors initiative reflects our commitment to supporting the wellbeing, dignity, and inclusion of senior citizens in our communities,” she said.
Njonjo added that the partnership aims to encourage more Kenyans to support a cause that recognises the contribution senior citizens have made to the country.
“Through this partnership, we are rallying Kenyans to champion a cause that celebrates and uplifts those who have played a significant role in building our nation. We are proud to stand alongside like-minded partners in ensuring that our seniors live healthier, more fulfilling lives,” she said.
Organisers expect hundreds of participants from across the country to take part in this year’s event, building on the success of the inaugural edition, which attracted strong public support and participation.
The run will feature 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre race categories, promoting wellness while advancing awareness on healthy ageing and social inclusion.
Mama Ibado Charity and KCB have called on corporates, institutions and members of the public to register and participate in the event as part of efforts to uplift, celebrate and support senior citizens. Registration is available through Mama Ibado Charity.
