Kabras RFC head coach Carlos Katywa believes the club’s culture of winning can fuel a resurgence in the National Sevens Circuit as the reigning Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup champions turn their attention to the shorter format of the game.
Fresh from guiding the Sugarmen to a fifth consecutive Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup double, Katywa believes the confidence gained from their dominance in the 15s game can inspire a stronger showing in the shorter format.
“People are asking how we will perform in the Sevens circuit because we have not been at our best over the past couple of seasons. Trust me, we will prepare accordingly once the boys are well rested, and we will give it our best shot,” said Katywa. The South African tactician is optimistic that the momentum from another successful campaign will carry over into the sevens season.
“I hope the momentum from dominating the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup will rub off on the Sevens Series. I know it is a different format, but I am confident in this group of players. We have what it takes to rise to the occasion once we start the circuit in the next month and a half,” he added.

Kabras finished fourth in last year’s National Sevens Circuit standings with 83 points after an inconsistent campaign across the six-leg series.
They opened the season with a fifth-place finish at the Driftwood Sevens before placing seventh at the Prinsloo Sevens and ninth at the Christie Sevens. The side then finished sixth at the Embu Sevens before showing signs of improvement in the final two legs, claiming third place at the Kabeberi Sevens and finishing runners-up at the Dala Sevens.
