Siaya County Governor James Orengo has said two members of his team were attacked in Homa Bay County shortly after a series of political rallies in Suba South and Suba North.

Orengo visited the two victims, Steven Odongo and Mourice Collins Midiwo, who are receiving treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. He noted that the incident occurred at Corner Kodoyo.

“Today, I visited two brave members of my team, Steven Odongo and Mourice Collins Midiwo, at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.”

He said the two were attacked after what he described as successful and peaceful political engagements in the region. The injured were first attended to at Tamarind Hospital before being transferred for further specialised care.

The governor expressed gratitude to medical personnel involved in their treatment. He praised the response teams for their swift action and professional handling of the emergency cases, saying their intervention was critical.

“I want to extend my deepest, most sincere appreciation to the medical teams at both Tamarind Hospital and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. Their lightning-fast emergency response and dedicated care saved lives today, and we are profoundly grateful for their professionalism.”

Orengo condemned the attack, terming it an act of political intolerance. He said violence should have no place in democratic engagement and called for restraint among political actors and supporters.

“We categorically condemn this blatant political intolerance, as violence has absolutely no place in our democratic discourse.”

He further urged law enforcement agencies to take swift action to identify and bring those responsible to justice. He called for accountability over what he described as a serious incident targeting his team members.

“We now call upon the relevant law enforcement authorities to move with utmost speed to bring both the perpetrators and the political sponsors of this heinous act to book.”

Orengo wished the injured team members a quick recovery and reassured supporters that such incidents would not derail their political mission.

“We wish Steven and Mourice a quick, full recovery, and we assure our supporters that no amount of sponsored terror will ever deter us from our mission.”
