Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has been removed from the National Assembly’s Public Investments Committee (PIC).
Wamboka has been reassigned to the Cohesion and Equal Opportunities Committee, amid ongoing investigations into allegations that recently emerged against him.
The changes were made by the Azimio Coalition, barely a month after Wamboka stepped aside as chairperson of the PIC on Governance and Education following complaints raised by some witnesses who appeared before the committee.
The witnesses alleged that the legislator solicited bribes and intimidated officials during committee proceedings. Wamboka has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing, and investigations into the claims are still ongoing.
At the time, Parliament said the move was intended to safeguard the integrity of the watchdog committee as inquiries continued.
The matter was referred to the Powers and Privileges Committee after concerns were raised by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), which accused the MP of harassment and seeking inducements in exchange for favourable treatment during hearings.
Wamboka has previously denied wrongdoing.
The latest committee reshuffle is likely to fuel political debate within Parliament, with some observers interpreting the transfer as a move by Azimio to contain the fallout surrounding the allegations while investigations proceed.
