AP Warriors have shifted their focus to the KRU Nationwide final against Kenya Prisons scheduled for Saturday at the Prisons Staff College in Ruiru.

AP Warriors and Kenya Prisons booked their places in the final after winning their respective semi-finals over the weekend. The two sides have also secured promotion to the KRU Championship next season, replacing Western Bulls and USIU Martials in the second-tier league.

AP Warriors narrowly edged former Championship side Kabarak University 19-17 in a tightly contested semi-final, while Kenya Prisons defeated Sigalagala National Polytechnic 26-23.

Speaking on Monday, AP Warriors coach Levy Amunga said the team is determined to complete the season with silverware. “We want to finish our season with a trophy. The semi-final victory and qualification for the KRU Championship are now behind us. This should not distract the players,” said Amunga.

He added: “We resume preparations for the final on Tuesday after a two-day break. At the end of the week, I want to select a strong squad that will represent the service well in the final. We want to conclude this beautiful unbeaten run in the KRU Nationwide.”

Amunga said survival will be the immediate objective when the team begins life in the Championship next season. “The two teams that qualified for the KRU Championship last season survived relegation, and NYS Spades featured in the play-off. This gives us confidence of surviving, but we’ll need to adapt quickly,” he said.

The tactician also revealed plans to strengthen the squad ahead of their debut campaign in the division. “The KRU Championship is a very competitive league. You need experienced players and squad depth,” noted Amunga.

Reflecting on the semi-final win over Kabarak University, Amunga described it as one of the toughest matches of the season. “It was one of the toughest games we have played in the league. In the first half, the players didn’t follow the script, and we were down 8-3. However, they stepped up after the halftime pep talk, and we won,” he said.
