Wandeto died from severe burn injuries allegedly inflicted by unknown attackers in Mwiki, Nairobi.
The mourners, majority women, were accompanied by Mbeere North MP Leo Wamuthende, Senator Tabitha Mutinda and Former CS Moses Kuria.
They carried banners and placards calling for swift investigations and an end to political intolerance and violence against women.
Some supporters wore white and black T-shirts printed with Wandeto’s image, while others flashed two-finger gestures associated with political messaging.
Placards carried messages such as “Justice for Rachel Muthoni”, “Haki kwa mama”, “No to political intolerance” and “Wamama na Ruto”.
The demonstrations came days after Wandeto succumbed to injuries sustained after assailants allegedly attacked her, poured a flammable substance on her body and set her ablaze before fleeing.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has since taken over the probe, with homicide detectives promising thorough investigations to identify and arrest all those involved.
President William Ruto also condemned the attack, saying those responsible would be held accountable regardless of their affiliations.
Wandeto’s death has sparked public outrage, with women’s groups, leaders and activists calling for justice and stronger protection against violence targeting women.
