Kenyan influencer and content creator Chebet Ronoh has sparked widespread conversation online after sharing an emotional reflection about the struggles many young people are facing while entering adulthood.
In a viral video shared on social media, the 25-year-old questioned why her generation has had to navigate major crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, rising living costs, and political unrest, at a time when they expected to be enjoying life and building their futures.

Chebet lamented that many young Kenyans now feel forced into activism and constant survival struggles instead of enjoying their youth.
According to her, adulthood has come with pressure to speak out against issues such as the Finance Bill, high fuel prices, disappearances, and the increasing cost of living.
“Now you want to bring Corona, you want to bring World War 3, the highest fuel prices I’ve seen in my whole life, children missing, people missing.”
She said young people are constantly fighting social, economic, and political battles while also trying to build careers and personal lives.
“I’m fighting for my country, I have to fight for the Finance Bill, I have to fight.”
Chebet also emotionally spoke about missing out on experiences she thought she would enjoy in her twenties.
“I’ve not even seen the Maldives yet. I’ve not even courted properly. You’ve turned me into a freedom fighter at the ripe age of 25.”

Chebet’s viral remarks come amid growing online discussions about the high cost of living in Kenya.Recently, lawyer and activist Morara Kebaso also sparked debate after questioning why flights, accommodation, and loans in Kenya appear significantly more expensive compared to countries like China.
Morara questioned why flights from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam can cost between KSh 40,000 and KSh 50,000 while flights from Nairobi to China are only slightly more expensive.
He also criticised Kenya’s lending rates, noting that borrowers often face interest rates of between 18% and 22%.
“How will a Kenyan company borrowing to expand manufacturing technology compete with a Chinese company borrowing one billion dollars at 3%?” he posed.
