He spoke on Friday at Thika High School during its 70th anniversary celebrations.
The President said the government is investing heavily in roads. "Today, we have road constructions going on everywhere in Kenya, including in this Kiambu County," he told the gathering.
He noted that Kiambu is rapidly growing and becoming part of Nairobi’s metropolitan area. To ease traffic and support this growth, he said the government will expand Thika Road.
Ruto said designs are being finalised, and he plans to launch the project in October. "We are going to invest in infrastructure," the President declared.
He pointed to ongoing work on the Mau Summit-Rironi road as proof of delivery.
Ruto recalled critics who doubted the project. "Najua wakati nlisema tutajenga barabara ya Mau Summit, Rironi kuenda Mau Summit, watu wengine waliongea maneno mingi. Ohh haiwezi kujengwa, ata wheelbarrow hakuna, lakini hao watu tutawaaibisha, sahi inaendelea kama risasi," he said.
Ruto assured that progress is on track. "And as I said, by April next year, hio barabara itakua imekamilika, kwanza by August this year kutoka hapo Kimbu pale rironi mpaka Naivasha itself, tutakua tumekamilisha the dualing, by August, in another three months or so," he added.
The President described these projects as part of a bigger vision. "Yes, we are going to transform this country. And we are going to change it," he stated.
"That is how transformation is going to look like."
His remarks highlighted the link between better roads and economic growth in fast-urbanising areas like Kiambu. The Thika Road upgrade, once complete, is expected to reduce travel times and boost connectivity between Nairobi and surrounding regions.
Ruto’s speech comes amid continued government focus on large-scale infrastructure. He used the school event to reassure residents that commitments made to Kiambu County will be honoured.
The President’s words drew attention to tangible results already visible on the Mau Summit road, which he said is advancing rapidly despite earlier scepticism.
By promising to break ground on the Thika superhighway in October, Ruto signalled that major works will continue in the coming months.
Locals at the anniversary event welcomed the updates on roads that directly affect their daily lives and the county’s future development.
The government maintains that these projects form a key pillar in turning Kenya into a more connected and prosperous nation.
