In a recent interview that has stirred significant debate online, controversial TikToker and Prophet Kanyari follower Marion Naipei has admitted to spending a large business investment on alcohol.
Speaking with content creator 2mbili, Naipei revealed that the funds were originally intended to launch a clothing business.
The Backless Dera Venture
The controversy began when Prophet Kanyari, a well-known and often divisive religious figure in Kenya, offered Naipei a financial lifeline. He provided her with Ksh 100,000 to start a business selling "backless deras," a popular style of traditional dress.
The investment was meant to provide Naipei with a sustainable source of income and a fresh start in the retail sector. However, the ambitious plans for the clothing line quickly fell apart.
Naipei was asked directly about the status of the business and the stock she was meant to sell. Her response was blunt. She confessed that she had "drunk the stock," implying that the money meant for inventory was instead spent on alcohol.
"First, he gave me KSh 50K. So far, he has given me Ksh 100K. I used it all in alcohol. I drank the stock,” she confessed.
When 2mbili questioned whether she felt proud of this or if she was apologetic, Naipei appeared to be seeking another chance. She addressed Prophet Kanyari directly during the interview, saying, "I’m not proud of it, but please daddy, I’m sorry, give me one last [opportunity]."
A Pattern of Support
The interview also shed light on the extent of the financial support Naipei receives from the Prophet. Despite the failure of the business venture, it appears Kanyari continues to fund her daily life.
Naipei claimed that Kanyari is incredibly responsive to her financial needs. She stated that she often calls him when her rent is due, and the matter is settled within minutes.
“It was my first mistake and I promise not to repeat it. Kanyari also pays my rent. Once the rent is due, I just call him and he settles the Ksh 12K rent dues,” she added.
Squandered Opportunities
2mbili challenged Naipei during the discussion, suggesting that she was playing with opportunities that others would dream of.
He noted that Kanyari seems to treat her with a level of public generosity that exceeds even his treatment of other close associates, like his daughter Sky.
"You are playing with opportunities. I see the way Kanyari has placed you... even more than Sky,” 2mbili told her.
Naipei defended her relationship with the Prophet, describing him as "special." She admitted that while she made a mistake with the business funds, she still holds a deep affection for her benefactor.
