Ulinzi Sharks Captain Maurice Odongo dives to score during a previous match at Nyayo/ HANDOUT
Coach Nixon Oyaro has rallied his charges to stay put and maintain focus ahead of the men’s Kenya Handball League clashes this weekend at Nyayo Stadium.

Ulinzi Sharks brace for tough tests against Lions and Strathmore in a demanding double-header, with Oyaro urging the former champions to sustain their momentum as Kenya Handball Federation action continues.

The soldiers head into the fixtures buoyed by their strong form in recent seasons, where they have consistently dominated the local scene.

Ulinzi have continued to build on their impressive performances in the men’s game, having previously won the 2023/24 Kenya Handball Federation Super Cup after defeating NCPB in the final. They are also perennial contenders in the National Men’s League.

Oyaro says the focus remains on maintaining consistency despite the demanding schedule. “We know we have two difficult matches ahead of us this weekend. Lions and Strathmore are both competitive sides, and we have prepared accordingly,” Oyaro said.

“The players understand what is expected of them. We want to remain disciplined in defence and clinical in attack because small mistakes can decide matches at this level.”

The Sharks have continued to build on their strong performances from the previous campaign, where they established themselves as title favourites through disciplined displays against key rivals, including KU, Equity and NCPB. Oyaro believes the growing competitiveness in the men’s league is pushing teams to raise their standards every week.

“The league has become tougher because many teams are investing in their squads and preparation. That is good for the sport because every match now requires maximum concentration,” he added.

The tactician maintained that Ulinzi’s main objective remains defending their crown and sustaining their dominance in local handball. “We are taking it one game at a time, but our objective is clear. We want to stay at the top and compete for every title available this season,” he said.

This weekend’s fixtures at Nyayo Stadium will see Ulinzi face Lions on Saturday at 3:00 pm, before taking on Strathmore on Sunday at the same time.

Other matches lined up include Desert Scorpions against Strathmore, KU versus GSU, Black Mamba against Equity, Desert Scorpions versus Lions, Equity against KU and GSU taking on Black Mamba.
