What Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata is alleging does not reflect the reality in the Mt Kenya region. I believe that someone like Kang’ata has been a survivor in politics.

At no given moment has he ever stood with the same people he started with.

If you remember, in 2022, he was very close to President Uhuru Kenyatta, and by the time Uhuru began embracing Raila Odinga, you will recall Kang’ata trying to exonerate himself by claiming that he had written letters to Uhuru.

Kang’ata’s incident is just an isolated case because, if you look at those politicians who have been standing with William (President William Ruto), none of them is wavering and everyone remains in the Kenya Kwanza camp.

The situation on the ground yesterday is not the same as it is today. If it were two years ago, I could have understood Kang’ata very well back then. Things have changed.

Back then, the President was somewhat isolated in the region, but now he is rolling out projects he promised to the people. You see, our people are not interested in anything else.

I can tell you about the Mountain region: it is not like any other region in the Republic of Kenya. People do not rely purely on politics, such as what you see at public rallies.

Our people are purely resource-oriented and development-focused. So, if things continue as they are now, with President Ruto frequently visiting the area and trying to implement the projects he promised, the situation will be very different from how it is perceived by a number of critics.

But I can tell you that this Kang’ata incident is isolated and does not reflect the feeling on the ground.

Ruto has demonstrated he means well for our people through the various development projects he has initiated across the region.

He is known not to stick with the people he started with, and portraying this as a Mt Kenya issue is inaccurate and misrepresents what the people of Mt Kenya feel about President Ruto’s re-election.
