Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Nyanza region secretary Geoffrey Nyantika has announced that digital verification of students will be rolled out at the Sub-County level to curb the widespread fielding of ineligible players during term two games.

Nyantika noted that cases of ineligible players have been rampant, particularly in football and volleyball, prompting urgent intervention by both KSSSA and the Ministry of Education, Kenya. “We shall strictly use the KSSSA portal to verify all teams from the Sub-County level. This is aimed at curbing cheating and impersonation before teams progress to the county level,” he said.

He explained that early vetting at the sub-county and county stages is expected to significantly reduce irregularities at the regional level, although an additional verification exercise will still be conducted by the KSSSA ICT team.

Nyantika urged schools to field only genuine students during the term two games, which will feature football, netball, volleyball, basketball 3x3, racquet games and rugby sevens for both boys and girls.

The directive follows earlier warnings from Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok and Director of Field Services and Coordination Nelson Sifuna, who cautioned that the Teachers Service Commission could take disciplinary action against teachers found culpable of fielding non-students.
