Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has thrown his weight behind the broad-based government, saying Kenya’s stability and future prosperity depend on unity and inclusivity across political divides.

In a statement, Kidero said his position is informed by the need to foster national cohesion and move away from entrenched partisan politics that have long defined the country’s electoral cycles.

He argued that the country stands at a critical juncture where leaders must embrace dialogue and collective responsibility for the greater good.

Kidero, a member of UDA from the Nyanza region, said he has deliberately chosen to champion cross-party engagement as part of a broader push toward what he termed “rational leadership.”

“This approach prioritises national cohesion, shared prosperity, and the long-term interests of all Kenyans over partisan divisions,” he said.

He expressed support for Oburu Odinga, who leads the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), particularly in his ongoing engagements with President William Ruto.

According to Kidero, the talks between ODM and UDA leadership present a rare opportunity to forge a more inclusive and stable government.

“These discussions present a historic opportunity to build a unifying government that reflects the voice and aspirations of the Kenyan people,” Kidero said.

He noted that closer cooperation between the two major political formations could lay the groundwork for a governance model anchored on inclusivity, equitable development, and political stability.

Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Kidero signalled his support for President Ruto’s re-election under what he described as a broad-based framework.

He maintained that such an arrangement would help bridge regional and political divides while ensuring that all communities feel represented in government.

“Supporting a second term for President Ruto is not merely a political position; it is a commitment to a united Kenya,” he said.

Kidero added that sustained collaboration among leaders would be key to addressing long-standing national challenges, strengthening institutions, and delivering tangible development outcomes.

“A united Kenya is a stronger, more resilient Kenya,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments and calls for dialogue among key players as the country begins to shape its political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
