Newly appointed Mombasa United coach Peter Okidi says he feels at home and vowed to lift the National Super League title.

Despite battling to a barren draw against log leaders Migori Youth on Sunday, Okidi, the battle for the NSL title is still on.

“It is not the result we expected, but we will continue to push. We want to keep the momentum because we want to finish on top of the NSL log,” said Okidi.

He rued missed chances during the game and claimed that their opponents resorted to time-wasting tactics in the second half.

“We had the upper hand, but we did not convert our chances. We want to win all our remaining games,” noted the former Shabana FC head coach.

Okidi, the national U17 team Rising Stars assistant coach, hailed the huge number of fans who turned up for the game at the Mombasa Sports Club to cheer the team.  The club maintained its unbeaten record, which stretches to 16 games.

Migori Youth’s coach Sammy Owano hailed the two teams for exhibiting beautiful football, adding that he is satisfied with how his boys played.

“We witnessed good football, and I’m satisfied with the result. Mombasa created chances, we also had a fair share of chances,” said Owano.

He, however, said he will work on his side to be more clinical in front of the goal.

The league’s top scorer, Syphas Otieno, is confident the two teams will qualify for the SportPesa League.

“The two teams will qualify for the top-tier league. However, we must fight for the title. We want the bragging rights,” said Otieno, who leads the top scorer’s charts with 18 goals.

He is excited about the prospect of leading Migori Youth in their maiden SportPesa League appearance.

“My target is to lead the team to the top-tier league. The top scorer’s award will be like a bonus to me,” noted the youngster.

Migori Youth will face off with the Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) at Awendo Stadium on Sunday, while Mombasa United will host stuttering Nairobi City Stars at Mombasa Sports Club.

Migori Youth leads the log with 65 points, the same as Mombasa United with seven games to go. However, Migori Youth has a better goal difference.

Equity Bank cemented the third place after a hard-fought 1-0 win over former FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars.

The Bankers have 69 points, one ahead of 4th-placed 3K FC, while MOFA sits fifth with 57 points.

In the relegation battle, Kabati Youth, Mully Children’s Family (MCF), Mwatate United, and Vihiga United are all facing the drop.

Kabati Youth is 17th with 28 points; MCF 18th with 24 points, same as 19th-placed Mwatate United. Former FKF Premier League side Vihiga United is bottom with a paltry 20 points.
