Rolls of cannabis sativa recovered from two suspects in a crackdown on illegal drug trafficking in Narok and Nakuru/HANDOUT

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in Nakuru and Narok counties have arrested two suspects in a crackdown on illegal drug trafficking.

The suspects were apprehended at Suswa Trading Centre following intelligence reports linking them to the distribution of illicit substances. According to investigators, the operation was carefully coordinated after weeks of surveillance.

“Acting on credible intelligence, our officers moved swiftly and successfully apprehended the suspects who have been under investigation for suspected involvement in narcotics trafficking,” Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.

Upon arrest, detectives recovered a significant haul, including six kilogrammes and 240 rolls of cannabis sativa, 30 litres of chang’aa, six cartons of second-generation liquor, and 20 packets of rolling papers.

The items are believed to have been intended for distribution within the region.

The suspects were escorted to Narok Police Station, where they are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court. Authorities confirmed that all recovered items have been secured as exhibits.

“This operation sends a strong warning to those involved in the drug trade that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and will not relent in pursuing offenders,” the officer added.

The DCI reiterated its appeal to members of the public to support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking by sharing information anonymously.

“We encourage wananchi to continue partnering with us. Information from the public remains critical in dismantling these networks and ensuring safer communities,” the officer said.

In a separate but related operation, police officers in Busia County intercepted a consignment of contraband liquor and suspected narcotics during a routine security check along the Busia–Kisumu Road.

The operation, conducted on May 3, 2026, involved a multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock. Officers stopped a Nairobi-bound public service vehicle for inspection, leading to the discovery of 24 packages of uncustomed Simba Gin, each containing 24 bottles of 200 millilitres.

Authorities also recovered five bales of substances suspected to be cannabis hidden within the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and taken into custody as investigations continue. The vehicle itself has been detained as part of the ongoing probe.

Police further disclosed that they are pursuing another suspect who reportedly fled during the operation.

Authorities say the twin operations underscore a broader national effort to combat illicit trade and drug trafficking, which continue to pose serious social and economic challenges.

Members of the public have once again been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as security agencies ramp up efforts to curb the spread of narcotics and contraband goods.
