The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has postponed its much-anticipated grassroots elections in Tana River County, dealing a blow to aspirants and party members who had been preparing for the exercise slated for May 2, 2026.
In a notice dated April 30, 2026, the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) announced that the polls would be deferred “until further notice,” without providing specific reasons for the abrupt decision.
“Notice is hereby given that the UDA National Elections Board has postponed the Tana River County grassroots elections which had been scheduled for 2nd May 2026… until further notice,” said NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura.
The board urged calm among party members, leaders, aspirants, and stakeholders, calling for patience as the party works on a new roadmap.
“All members, leaders, aspirants, and stakeholders are requested to take note of this development and await further communication. The party appreciates your understanding and continued cooperation,” Mwaura added.
The postponement is likely to spark concern among local aspirants who had intensified campaigns ahead of the grassroots polls, seen as critical in shaping the party’s county leadership structure.
UDA has in recent months been conducting grassroots elections across the country as part of efforts to strengthen its internal structures ahead of future political contests.
However, delays in some regions have raised questions about logistical preparedness and internal coordination.
Party insiders indicated that a new date for the Tana River exercise will be communicated in due course.
