A suspected robber was shot dead in a failed robbery incident in Dandora, Nairobi. Police officers from Dandora Police Station said they recovered a Tokarev pistol from a three-man gang suspected of terrorising locals.

While on patrol, the officers encountered the gang of three young men who were allegedly robbing members of the public along Councillor Opundo Road on Thursday evening.

According to police, upon being challenged to surrender, one of the suspects drew a firearm and opened fire at the officers, prompting a response.

One suspect was fatally injured, while his two accomplices escaped on foot towards the Maili Saba area.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said a search conducted on the fatally injured suspect led to the recovery of a Tokarev pistol loaded with two live rounds of 9mm ammunition, a military knife and two mobile phones.

The scene was processed and the body moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examination.

Police said they are conducting ballistic tests on the gun to establish if it has been used in other crimes.

Meanwhile, officers are pursuing the two suspects who escaped, Mohamud said.

Police have intensified operations in the city following a series of armed robbery incidents reported.

Police reported that the body had blood discharge from the mouth but no other visible external injuries were immediately noted.

The scene was processed by crime scene investigators before the body was moved to Village of Hope Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
