A buffalo fatally injured a herder in a village in Isiolo County.

KWS officials based at Murera and Kurbesa said the victim was attacked and fatally injured while herding livestock in a park area.

The body of Osman Gorad, 23, was found on the ground in the Basanadi National Reserve with an abdominal injury.

The scene was processed, and the body was released to the family for burial after the April 27 incident.

The family was advised to seek compensation claims.

This is the most recent such incident of human-wildlife conflict in the country. Officials said they are making efforts to address the issue.

In May 2025, Kenya launched the third phase of its Human–Wildlife Conflict Compensation Programme, an initiative aimed at addressing these incidents and supporting affected families.

During its launch at Meru National Park, President William Ruto unveiled the new Wildlife Conservation Card, a new tool designed to help fund conservation efforts.

“Compensation is justice, but prevention is progress,” Ruto said, emphasising the need for long-term solutions that benefit both people and wildlife. “Through the Conservation Card, fencing, and community-led tourism, we are turning conflict into opportunity,” he added.

Developed in partnership with KCB Bank, the Wildlife Conservation Card is offered in three tiers—Platinum (Elephant), Gold (Lion), and Silver (Cheetah).

A portion of every transaction made with the card (Sh10, Sh5, and Sh3, respectively) goes directly to the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund.

The initiative aims to enable Kenyans and international supporters to contribute to wildlife conservation while fostering economic benefits for local communities. With this new approach, Kenya hopes to build a future where humans and wildlife can coexist more safely and sustainably.

Meanwhile, detectives are investigating two separate murder cases reported in Nairobi.

The first incident was reported in the Dandora Dumpsite area, police said.

The body of a man was found lying in a pool of blood with two stab wounds in the neck and forehead.

Police said the man was attacked and stabbed by unknown assailants who escaped the scene. The motive of the incident was not immediately known, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary for identification and autopsy.

In Nairobi’s Huruma area, a woman died after she had been assaulted in her house. Her husband was left with serious injuries and hospitalised.

The motive of the attack on the couple on the morning of April 28 was not immediately known.

Witnesses told police the two were locked up in a house and beaten up before they were rushed to a hospital, where the woman succumbed to the injuries.

The woman’s body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy and other procedures, police said, adding they are pursuing leads into the attackers and possible motive.
