Kenyans should reject re-electing the current regime to rescue the country from 'irreparable mess', United Green Movement (UGM) party presidential hopeful David Maraga has said.
The former CJ on Tuesday, pledged to restore systems he said have been weakened under the Kenya Kwanza administration if elected president in 2027, including ensuring autonomy in sector management and improving service delivery.
“I am going to rescue this country from the destruction caused by the current administration. I will stop micromanagement and demand results from each sector,” he said.
He also pledged to uphold the rule of law and strictly adhere to the Constitution.
“Abiding by the Constitution will help seal corruption loopholes that cause Kenya to lose vast public funds,” he added.

He said the current leadership can no longer be trusted with the country beyond the 2027 elections, citing Kenya Kwanza's first-term performance.
Speaking while opening a new UGM branch office in Homa Bay town, Maraga, accompanied by party leader Agostino Neto and National Organising Secretary Easter Ogweno, said the affected sectors are currently facing a crisis.
He accused the State of mishandling the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, arguing that it was introduced before teachers were adequately trained, causing confusion in the education sector.
Maraga warned that the situation could undermine the future of Kenyan children.
“This government has messed up the country’s generation by destroying the education system. Teachers were not trained for CBE implementation, and no proper prior arrangements were made,” he said.

The former Chief Justice also accused the government of allegedly jeopardising the health sector through the introduction of the Social Health Authority (SHA), which he claimed has limited access to medication.
“The SHA is not operating effectively because Kenyans cannot access medication the way they did under NHIF. If NHIF had issues, they should have been rectified without disbanding it,” he said.
He further criticised the government over the eCitizen platform.
“Why did the government outsource eCitizen when we have capable Kenyan ICT experts? Many qualified individuals were overlooked because the government wanted to steal from Kenyans,” Maraga said.
Maraga argued that Kenya has sufficient resources, but corruption prevents citizens from benefiting.
Neto urged young people to register as voters in large numbers ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We appeal to eligible youth to register as voters and support Maraga’s presidential bid to restore the country’s independence dream,” Neto said.
Ogweno said scrapping SHA and other ineffective systems would help transform the lives of Kenyans.
