Sidian Bank has donated Sh500,000 towards the Eldoret City Marathon as part of its commitment to promoting sports and community development in Uasin Gishu County.
The cheque was officially handed over on April 26, 2026, to support the successful organisation of the marathon.
The presentation was witnessed by key stakeholders, including Dr Jonathan Bii Chelilim, Governor of Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking during the handover, the Sidian Bank team expressed pride in partnering with the county government and local sports icons to foster athletic excellence and bring communities together through sport.
The Eldoret City Marathon continues to celebrate Kenya’s rich running heritage while creating opportunities for athletes and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle across the region.
The 2026 Eldoret City Marathon delivered a surprise result after Cheruiyot Koech emerged victorious in the men’s race, clocking 2:12:53 to secure the title. The Kericho-born runner staged a remarkable comeback from his 21st-place finish last year, showing strong control and endurance over the 42km course. Kiprotich Langat came in second in 2:13:23 after steadily improving his position during the race, while Hosea Kiplimo completed the podium in 2:13:29. In the women’s category, Uganda’s Dorine Chesang took first place in 2:30:26, narrowly ahead of Margaret Muruiki, who finished in 2:30:45. Winners in both categories will each receive Sh3.5 million.
