TSC/ FILEThe Selection Panel for the Recruitment of Nominees for Appointment as Members of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has invited qualified Kenyans to apply for two vacant positions, with applications closing on May 11.
In a public notice issued by the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, the panel said the recruitment seeks suitable persons for consideration for nomination and appointment to the constitutional commission.
The successful applicants will serve on a full-time basis for a single non-renewable term of six years.
“A person shall be qualified for appointment as a member if the person is a citizen of Kenya, holds a degree from a university recognised in Kenya and has knowledge and experience of at least ten years in relevant fields,” the notice stated.
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens and have at least 10 years of knowledge and experience in matters relating to education, governance, management, law or public administration.
They must also hold a degree from a university recognised in Kenya and meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.
The panel said the commissioners will be expected to ensure the commission functions effectively and delivers on its constitutional mandate under Article 237 of the Constitution and the Teachers Service Commission Act.
Their duties will include formulating policies, providing strategic direction and oversight, ensuring teachers comply with teaching standards, managing the teachers’ payroll, facilitating career progression, promoting professional development, and overseeing the appointment of head teachers and principals.
“The members shall ensure that the commission functions effectively and fulfils its constitutional mandate as set out in Article 237 of the Constitution,” the notice stated.
The notice further outlined strict grounds for disqualification, warning that persons with active political roles or questionable integrity records will not qualify.
Among those barred are serving Members of Parliament, Members of County Assembly, members of governing bodies of political parties and members of local authorities.
Also disqualified are persons found under any law to have misused or abused a state office or public office, or those found to have violated Chapter Six of the Constitution.
The panel said successful candidates will not be allowed to hold any other office or engage in gainful employment in either the public or private sector.
Applicants are required to submit a detailed curriculum vitae of not more than three pages in Times New Roman font size 12 and double spacing, copies of academic and professional certificates, national identity card or passport, testimonials and other supporting documents.
Scanned copies of the documents must accompany online applications.
Applications should be clearly marked “Application for the position of two members, Teachers Service Commission” and may be submitted by hand, post or email.
Hand-delivered applications should be taken to Harambee House, 10th Floor, Room 1011, between 8 am and 5 pm on weekdays, while online applications should be sent to [email protected].
“All applications must reach the selection panel on or before Monday, May 11, 2026, 6.00 pm EAT,” the notice said.
Names of all applicants will be published on the ministry’s website, while shortlisted candidates and interview schedules will appear in daily newspapers and on the same platform.
Shortlisted candidates will also be required to present valid clearance certificates from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Higher Education Loans Board, Kenya Revenue Authority, Credit Reference Bureau and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The panel warned that canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.
