The group led by Bishop David Milimo gathered alongside dozens of clergy and faithful announced declared their support for Barasa on Tuesday at his Nasianda home.
Speaking to the press, Milimo revealed that the decision to back Barasa was reached after wide consultations within the church leadership, noting that the MP stood out as the most suitable candidate to champion for the interests of the people.
“Today we have decided to endorse the candidate of our choice. All the 330 PAG churches in Bungoma will support Didmus Barasa for the top seat,” Milimo stated.
The bishop further disclosed that more than 80 pastors from across the county had accompanied him to the event symbolising unity and collective resolve within the church.
He emphasised that the endorsement was not made lightly, but rather after careful consideration of Barasa’s leadership qualities, vision and track record.
According to Milimo, the church commands a significant following in Bungoma, with over 150,000 members expected to participate in the electoral process.
He further expressed confidence that this support base would play a critical role in propelling Barasa to victory.
“We are optimistic that he will win the governor’s seat. As a church, we have over 150,000 members who will vote and we have decided to walk this journey with him because he has a good vision for Bungoma County,” he added.
On his part, Barasa welcomed the church’s support with gratitude, describing it as both humbling and encouraging.
He applauded PAG for what he termed a bold and principled decision to rally behind his candidature.
“I want to say that I’m very happy for you to come here because by the word of the Bible, when the people chosen to labour for the cross set foot in a place, that area becomes blessed,” Barasa said.
The UDA MP underscored the importance of spiritual backing in leadership, suggesting that the endorsement by church leaders was a sign of divine favour in his quest for the county’s top seat.
He reiterated his commitment to working closely with religious leaders, noting that their guidance and support would be instrumental in transforming Bungoma County and improving the livelihoods of its residents.
Barasa further stated that he is determined to “liberate” Bungoma County, arguing that the region has lagged behind in development and requires visionary leadership to unlock its full potential.
“I am determined to liberate Bungoma County through such church leaders' backing,” he remarked, referring to the collective role of faith-based institutions in shaping governance and accountability.
