MX85 winner Kigen Mutuma during Round 2 of the 2026 MX Championship/HANDOUTEast African Motor Sports Club (EAMSC) secretary Aidah Kangogo has welcomed the growing number of participants in the 2026 MX Championship, terming it a strong indicator of the sport’s expansion and increasing competitiveness.
Speaking at the conclusion of Round Two of the 2026 EAMSC Championship at Jamhuri MX Grounds in Nairobi, Kangogo pointed to the larger, more diverse entry list across categories as evidence that motocross is attracting new talent while strengthening its development pipeline.
“The upcoming Moto 3 Championship will be held in 254 MX Ranch in Masinga, Machakos County on May 31 and it’s a demonstration that EAMSC wants to take the sports to the people as it symbolises both growth and development of youth talent as they embrace the sport. This makes it even more competitive as riders test different terrains,” said Kangogo.
Nearly 40 riders braved the wet and slippery conditions in a demanding round that tested endurance, control and consistency.
In the MX85 class, Kigen Mutuma stood out with a dominant ride to claim top spot on 60 points, finishing ahead of Dylan Hatanga and Jedd Kagondu, who both settled for 47 points. Mutuma took to the track fresh from an intensive training stint in Cape Town between April 2 and 15, wher he trained at renowned tracks like the Dirt Bronco and Terratopia.
His ability to navigate the increasingly muddy conditions—now a defining feature of this season—set him apart from the field and underscored his preparation and resilience.
“I was fully prepared and ready to race despite the muddy conditions, which have become the norm this year,” Mutuma said, while sympathising with fellow competitor Armani Amani, who was sidelined due to injury.
“It’s unfortunate that Amani was out injured. I wish him a quick recovery and hope he returns to the start gates in Moto 3 so that the 85CC class remains highly competitive this season.”
Chemain Kangogo dominated the MX125, securing victory with 60 points ahead of Ngengi Kamau on 51, while Shivam Vinayak clinched maximum 60 points in the premier MX1 class. Peter Mutua led the way in the Vets/Masters category, with 37 points, ahead of Anthony Nduati (20) and Emmanuel Hazikimana.
Zane Ngoru claimed victory in the MX50 class with 54 points, edging out Dimitar Krachev Malit (49) and Mozelle Momanyi (45), while the Peewee class saw Kiyian Tini post a perfect 60 points to beat Arie Kamau (51) and Allen Ngoru (45). Jayden Weru topped the MX65 category with 60 points, followed by Thang’a Kihungi (51) and Imanuel Mutinda (41).
Clerk of Course Eric Nyachae reiterated the need to broaden access to the sport, particularly among female riders.
“We want to see more young girls take up motocross and believe that this sport is for them too. EAMSC is committed to creating an inclusive environment where female riders can train, compete and excel just like their male counterparts,” he said.
