The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has amended a key qualification requirement in its ongoing recruitment for the position of Commissioner, Business Strategy, Technology and Enterprise Modernisation, and extended the application deadline by one week.

In a notice issued as a follow-up to the original advertisement published on March 31, through MyGov and referenced PKFCL/008/2026, the authority revised Clause No 7 relating to recognition of academic qualifications.

Initially, the advert required all applicants— both holders of local and foreign degrees—to attach a recognition letter from the Commission for University Education (CUE) confirming that their qualifications are recognised in Kenya.

Applications submitted without the CUE letter were to be deemed invalid. However, in the amendment, KRA has narrowed this requirement to apply only to candidates with foreign academic qualifications.

“Holders of academic qualifications from foreign institutions must attach a letter from the Commission for University Education (CUE) recognising the qualification certificate as a qualification recognised in Kenya. Foreign degrees submitted for the application without a letter from CUE will not be considered as valid qualifications,” the notice states.

The revision effectively removes the obligation for applicants with locally obtained degrees to provide CUE recognition letters.

The Commission for University Education (CUE) is a government agency mandated by the Universities Act to regulate, accredit and quality-assure university education.

It ensures quality standards by licensing institutions, accrediting academic programmes, equating foreign degrees and advising the government on policy.

Alongside the amendment, KRA extended the deadline for submission of online applications from the initial April 21, 2026 cut-off to April 28, 2026 at 11pm, to accommodate applicants impacted by the change.

Hard copy applications will not accepted.

“All other terms and conditions remain unchanged,” the notice adds.

The position, advertised through recruitment firm PKF, is a senior leadership role tasked with overseeing business strategy, technology integration and enterprise modernisation within the authority.

The original advert cautioned applicants against presenting fake certificates or documents or to include incorrect information in their application.

Canvassing, falsifying or misrepresentation of qualifications would lead to automatic disqualification.

PKF emphasised that KRA is an equal opportunity employer and does not charge any application, processing, interviewing or other fee at any stage of the recruitment process.

Successful candidates will be required to present compliance documents in line with Chapter Six of the constitution.

These include valid clearance certificates from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb), and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), as well as a current clearance certificate from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and a credit report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
