Kenya’s ongoing enhanced voter registration exercise by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is a crucial step in strengthening democratic participation.
By bringing services to churches, mosques, universities, colleges and Huduma centres, the commission has brought it closer to the people and made registration more accessible than ever before.
This initiative not only targets new voters but also allows those already registered to confirm their details or transfer polling stations, ensuring accuracy and convenience ahead of the elections.
Since its launch on March 30, the exercise has drawn steady participation, though more effort is needed to meet national goals.
Currently, Kenya has about 23.5 million registered voters, against an IEBC target of about 26 million.
This gap highlights the urgency for eligible citizens to act before the April 28 deadline, after which registration will revert to constituency offices.
Elections shape the nation’s future. Every Kenyan must take advantage of this opportunity to register, update their details and ultimately exercise their democratic right to choose leaders who reflect their aspirations.
