NTV presenter Janet Mbugua’s final day on "Fixing the Nation" was marked by an emotional surprise from her family. The morning show first launched on Monday, 3 February 2025.

It broadcasts weekdays from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM on NTV Kenya, Nation FM, and digital platforms. Mbugua hosted the programme alongside Eric Latiff and Mariam Bishar.

A Family Surprise

The veteran journalist was visibly moved as her two sons were ushered into the studio. The boys arrived wearing matching outfits. They presented their mother with bouquets as she expressed her disbelief live on air.

Janet was visibly stunned, repeatedly exclaiming "Oh my god" as she embraced them. She remarked to her eldest that he looked just as tall in person as he did in photographs, before thanking them for the flowers.

"Sorry I’ve interrupted because I’ve seen my sons, Oh my God,” she said as she stood to hug them.

Professional Legacy

One team member thanked Mbugua for ending her sabbatical to help build the vision of the show. They acknowledged the many early mornings she spent away from her children to serve the viewers.

The producer described the departure as a bittersweet moment. She noted that the team would carry forward Mbugua's humility, composure, and professionalism.

The Final Handover

The ceremony concluded with the cutting of a special cake baked by the production team. Mbugua’s sons helped her cut the cake as the entire crew gathered around the desk.

The presenter offered her final thanks to the leadership and her colleagues for believing in her.

Mbugua ended her final show by thanking the audience for the honour of being on their screens.

“Thank you to the leadership as well for believing in me. I really appreciate it. That's my final. It's just all the best. God bless you and thank you for the honor,” she concluded.

Before joining NTV in early 2025, Janet Mbugua was a prominent news anchor at Citizen TV from 2011 to 2017, where she hosted Monday Special and The Big Question.

Previously, she worked at e.tv in Johannesburg, South Africa (2009–2011) as a reporter and anchor for Africa 360, and started her career at Capital FM in 2004.

After leaving Citizen TV, Mbugua has been involved in several projects, including running a foundation known as Inua Dada Foundation, which champions menstrual health management for girls.
