David Ngugi during a recent event/HANDOUT Kenya’s David Ngugi has been re-elected as Secretary General of the Federation of East Africa Schools’ Sports Association (FEASSA) following elections held in Kampala, Uganda.
Ngugi, who also serves in the same capacity within the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA), was returned unopposed as part of a newly constituted Executive Committee that blends continuity with strategic expansion.
Upper Hill School Chief Principal, Maurice Okumu, was elected Deputy Secretary General, while Uganda’s Justus Mugisha retained the presidency. KSSSA national treasurer Kariuki Gikonyo was elected Vice President (Technical), with Tanzania’s Deo Lugayila retaining the Vice President (Administration) role.
Lugayila previously served as FEASSA publicity secretary. In a newly created position, Rwanda’s Luke Karemangino was elected Vice President (Welfare). Uganda’s Patrick Okanya retained the treasurer’s position, while compatriot Ayub Khalifa is the new organising secretary.
Dennis Othieno remains publicity secretary. Committee members include KSSSA President and Kapsabet High Chief Principal Kipchumba Maiyo, Father Innocent Gatete, Anita Alex Mlay and Apolot Margaret Harriet. FEASSA confirmed that positions for Burundi and South Sudan will be filled later through an adoption process.
The elections, conducted both physically and virtually at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association offices at GNS Plaza, marked the end of the previous four-year term.
FEASSA leadership reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening school sports through enhanced regional collaboration, standardised competition structures and increased investment in youth development.
The federation also emphasised inclusivity and adaptability in its electoral process, allowing wider participation from member states despite geographical limitations. Attention now shifts to the 2026 FEASSA Games, set for Morogoro, Tanzania, from August 12–23, where Kenya will be aiming to defend the title they reclaimed from Uganda during last year’s edition in Kakamega.
