Kakamega deputy governor Ayub Savula addressing UDA delegates at Solyo grounds in Shinyalu on April 14, 2026 /HILTON OTENYO More than 1,000 newly elected polling centres' UDA officials from the Western region have endorsed Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula for one of the Deputy party leaders of the party in the forthcoming elections.
President William is the UDA party leader deputised by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Lamu Governor Isaa Timamy.
The delegates drawn from Shinyalu and Likuyani constituencies made the declarations during two different meetings chaired by the respective MPs on Tuesday.
Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana led the delegates from Shinyalu during a meeting held at Solyo grounds, while Likuyani’s Innocent Mugabe led delegates from the constituency in a meeting at Nangili Girls' Grounds.
The delegates said Savula deserves one of the top seats in the party for effective co-ordination of grassroots UDA activities in the vote-rich region.
They said the position would solidify President Ruto’s two-term campaigns in the Western region.
Ikana said Western should be represented at the national level on matters of the UDA, and this requires a senior position.
Savula, who attended the two meetings, accepted the declaration, saying he was ready and willing to serve the party diligently.
Savula suggested that UDA party needs to amend its constitution to create the third deputy party position to ensure broader regional representation.
Savula defected from DAP as a deputy party leader and was received by President Ruto at State House Nairobi, joining the UDA team recently.
Earlier, Savula served as deputy party leader for the ANC party.
Savula said that the Western region only has the vice chairman position held by Kelvin Lunani.
“Western deserves the deputy leader position to bargain with the community to give Ruto all votes they used to give ODM leader the late Raila Odinga,” he said.
He said he will utilise the position to market Ruto to win the highest number of votes for a second term.
Currently, Savula is serving as the Deputy Western Region coordinator for President Ruto's two-term campaigns.
Savula is the deputy to Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, while the patron is Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
Western has 2.6 million old votes, and it projects to register another 1.4 million new voters, bringing the total to 4 million votes. Savula said UDA and ODM will join hands to campaign for Ruto in 2027.
