
A postmortem on the body of a foreign student from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) confirmed the cause of death as cardiac arrest, police have said.
Li Xianpeng, a 25-year-old student, was found dead in his room at the college on April 8.
The postmortem examination conducted at the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi concluded that the cause of death was cardiac arrest.
The medical team said medications recovered from the deceased’s residence were consistent with treatment for pre-existing cardiovascular conditions.
No external injuries or signs of violence were observed on the body.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased’s family was working closely with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to facilitate repatriation arrangements. The student was pursuing a degree in Agricultural Ecosystem.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Form 4 student was found dead in a dam in Namasanda village, Bungoma South subcounty, after she was reported missing.
The body was first spotted floating in the dam by a local resident at the weekend, police said.
Police visited the scene and, with the help of members of the public, retrieved the body from the water.
The deceased was identified as a student at St Peters Musikoma High School.
Family members told police that she had gone missing the previous night under unclear circumstances.
Authorities confirmed that the body had no visible physical injuries.
The scene was processed and the body moved to Bungoma Referral and Teaching Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
And the body of a 59-year-old man who had been missing for several days was recovered from a privately owned dam in Kieni West subcounty, Nyeri county.
The incident was reported on April 10 at around 2.40 pm, after members of the public spotted a lifeless body partially floating in the water.
Police officers visited the scene and retrieved the body, which was in a partially decomposed state.
The deceased was identified as James Thiong’o.
Preliminary investigations established that the man had been living alone and had been missing since April 6.
However, no formal missing person report had been filed at any police station.
The body was moved to Mary Immaculate Hospital Mortuary in Mweiga, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident with hopes of solving it.
