This reaction followed a tense public event in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, attended by the President. During his speech, the senator openly declared that while he respects the Head of State, he does not fear him.
As his speech continued, tensions rose: his remarks took a political tone, drawing reactions from both leaders and the public. Eventually, the address was interrupted, and he was forced to leave the stage.

“Leaders Should Not Govern in Fear”

In subsequent interviews, Methu doubled down on his position, arguing that elected leaders must prioritise their constitutional duty over fear of authority.
He emphasised that:
  • Respect for the presidency does not equal silence.
  • Leaders are accountable to citizens, not individuals.
  • Speaking up is part of oversight and representation.
He noted that he feared the President would compromise his ability to serve the people of Nyandarua effectively.

Clarifying His Intentions

Despite the backlash, the senator clarified that his remarks were not intended as a personal insult but rather as a reflection of concerns from his constituents.
He maintained that his responsibility is to speak on issues affecting his people, even in the presence of the country’s highest office.
His comments have since sparked widespread debate across political and public spaces, with some praising his boldness while others criticised the tone and setting of his remarks.
