Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has launched an empowerment programme targeting women and youth through the distribution of livestock and poultry to boost household incomes and food security.

Speaking at Mukuyuni in the Tongaren constituency, he said the initiative is part of his administration’s strategy to strengthen grassroots economic empowerment and expand agribusiness opportunities.

“This programme is designed to enhance food security, create sustainable livelihoods and stimulate agricultural productivity at the community level,” he said.

The rollout includes 335 livestock (dairy heifers, goats and piglets) and 85,799 improved kienyeji chicks distributed to organised groups to promote poultry farming.

The county also issued 15,000 fish fingerlings, 32 incubators and 22,000 fertilised eggs to expand local hatchery capacity.

Beneficiaries will access two pellet machines and 10 feed formulation units to support value addition and sustainable feed production.

In Milima ward, 18 women and youth groups each received a dairy heifer, while 30 groups benefited from more than 11,000 improved chicks.

Lusaka said the initiative would spur rural incomes and position agriculture as a key driver of the county’s socioeconomic transformation.

He also assured residents that the recent dissolution of his cabinet would not disrupt service delivery.

“All departments remain operational. We are now shifting focus to accelerated development,” he said, announcing plans to roll out high-impact projects across the county.

The governor urged MCAs to cooperate with the executive and avoid political wrangles.

“The time left is short. Let us focus on serving our people rather than engaging in unnecessary power struggles,” he said.

Lusaka added that he holds no grudges against political rivals and remains committed to leaving a lasting development legacy.
