Diana Marua has opened up about a dark chapter from her past involving an ex-boyfriend and a sudden eviction. The popular YouTuber and rapper shared the story during a candid sit-down with her sisters, Val and Michelle.
The conversation was part of a recent episode on her YouTube channel, where the trio discussed the trials of their 20s.

A Distressing Call
The memory dates back roughly 12 years. At the time, Diana’s sister Val was a young mother and was still breastfeeding her child. She revealed that she was living in a house where her boyfriend at the time was responsible for the rent and bills.
The situation took a turn for the worse when the relationship soured. Diana’s sister, Val, recalled the moment the support was abruptly withdrawn. She described calling Diana to tell her that the man had ordered the disconnection of essential services.

"The guy [was going to] disconnect gas andI’m breastfeeding... disconnect TV. Can you imagine?” she said.
Diana explained that this was a pivotal moment of heartbreak. She noted that while she was in a vulnerable state, she had to learn the hard way about the risks of financial dependence on the wrong partner.

The Impact of Upbringing
During the emotional episode, the sisters reflected on why they had previously settled for "emotionally unavailable" or "abusive" partners. Diana suggested that their choices were heavily influenced by their childhood.
The sisters grew up in a single-parent household. Diana explained that they never saw a "healthy relationship between two people" during their formative years. This lack of a blueprint meant they did not know what to look for in a partner as they entered their 20s.
"Know your value, and then add tax to it. If someone loves you, someone would not emotionally drain you."
From Receptionist to Digital Mogul
Before finding fame as a content creator and rapper, Diana worked as a receptionist for nearly five years. She described teaching new employees who had higher education while she remained in her entry-level role.
She eventually used that job as a "stepping stone" to move into office spaces and eventually build her own brand. Today, Diana is married to Kenyan musician Bahati, and together they are considered one of the most influential "power couples" in East Africa.

Lessons for the Next Generation
The sisters ended the video by urging young women to prioritise financial independence in their 20s. Diana’s main takeaway for her viewers was to trust their instincts and maintain boundaries.
"Heartbreak is not the end of the world," she said, reminding her audience that there is life on the other side of a painful breakup.
