
Detectives are investigating an incident in which a Chinese student on a foreign exchange programme collapsed and died in his room at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Juja.
The cause of death of Xianpeng Li was not immediately known, police said of the April 8 incident.
Officials at the institution said he was pursuing a degree in Agricultural Ecosystem.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival after a colleague attempted to administer first aid unsuccessfully.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police said the autopsy would help determine the cause of death and confirmed that the Chinese embassy in Nairobi had been informed of the incident.
In a separate incident in Marereni area, Kilifi County, an 11-year-old minor died after being hit by a falling palm tree.
Police officers who visited the scene said the boy died instantly after being struck on the head.
The victim had been resting under the tree with other children on April 8 in the afternoon when the tree fell and trapped him.
Police said his skull was crushed and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
They noted that such incidents involving palm trees have been common in the area, with other accidents occurring when people harvesting palm products fall from the trees.
In Nyeri’s Gatitu area, a 57-year-old man, Luka Gatimu Wamuyu, who had been admitted at Nyeri Provincial General Hospital, died following an assault incident.
He had been admitted on April 7 with multiple injuries, police said on Friday.
Police said they are investigating the incident as murder.
Meanwhile, in Maili Saba area, Trans Nzoia County, a man believed to be epileptic was found dead in a pool of water in a forested area in Namanjala.
The victim was identified as David Kahindi, 30.
Police said the body was found lying in a pool of water in the forested area.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
In a separate incident, police arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Joseph Kiragu in Dandora area, Nairobi. The suspect was arrested in Mathioya, Murang’a County.
He was moved to Nairobi for further interrogation and arraignment.
Police said Kiragu’s body was found lying in a pool of blood following his killing on Tuesday.
They added that investigations were ongoing to establish whether the suspect acted alone, and said they would search his house for evidence as part of efforts to determine the motive.
