President William Ruto at State House on April 10/PCS
President William Ruto on Friday morning presided over the signing of a lease agreement between Zaria Group and Kenya Railways Corporation for the development of a modern indoor arena in Nairobi.
The agreement, signed at State House, Nairobi, marks a key milestone in the implementation of the Nairobi Railway City Project, a flagship plan aimed at transforming the capital’s central business district into a leading hub for transport, business, and leisure in the region.
The event was attended by Johnson Sakaja, Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga, and Masai Ujiri, the Co-founder of Zaria Group.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Ruto said the construction of the arena and its surrounding entertainment district represents a significant step towards realising the broader Railway City vision.
He noted that the project is designed to position Nairobi as a premier destination for sports, culture, and commerce across East Africa and beyond.
The development will be implemented as a long-term partnership between the government and private investors, aligning with Kenya’s infrastructure priorities.
It is also expected to complement other major projects, including Talanta Stadium and the Bomas International Convention Complex, as part of a coordinated effort to modernise urban facilities.
According to the President, the project is scheduled for completion within 12 months and is projected to create up to 25,000 jobs annually, offering economic opportunities in construction, operations, and related sectors.
