Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, has strongly condemned the violent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.

Speaking in Nakuru during the burial ceremony of Mitchelle Jelimo Kemboi, who was the daughter of Kenya Ports Authority Director General Captain William Ruto, Murkomen termed the incident as unacceptable.

“We strongly condemn what happened to Senator Osotsi in Kisumu. It is totally unacceptable,” said the CS.

“As we head towards the elections, I want to urge leaders to reject politics driven by violence, goons, and gangs,” he added.

Issuing a stern warning to perpetrators of political violence, the CS confirmed that arrests have already been made, with more suspects being sought.

“I am pleased to report that the DCI has arrested three suspects, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved,” he stated.

Additionally, the CS dismissed claims linking Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to the incident, terming those making the allegations the orchestrators of violence.

“I have seen some opposition figures mentioning my PS. I challenge them to come out openly and denounce the goons and gangs they are walking around with," he said while calling for political tolerance in the country.

Elsewhere, Omollo issued a strong warning against criminal gangs and political violence, affirming that decisive action will be taken against all individuals involved, even as targeted security operations continue to restore stability in affected regions.

Speaking in Lodwar, Turkana County, Omollo, was unequivocal on the gangs.

"Criminal gangs and political goonism are a national challenge and will not be tolerated. Any individual or leader who engages in or facilitates such acts will be held accountable in accordance with the law,” he said.

Omollo noted that armed groups, banditry, and cattle rustling have had devastating effects on pastoral communities, and confirmed that the Government has intensified disarmament operations to remove illegal firearms from circulation.
