Kenya Power has announced the death of one of its employees who was attacked while on duty at Checheles area near Isiolo town.
The company said Shadrack Makembo was attacked on Thursday while performing his official duties.
He received emergency treatment at the incident area before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical care. Despite the efforts made, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident is linked to suspected fraudulent electricity consumption at the premises where the attack occurred.
Kenya Power said a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large, has been launched.
The company expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, noting that it continues to stand with them during this difficult time and also supporting them with necessary assistance.
"As highlighted in our earlier statement, this is not an isolated incident. Some of our employees have previously been attacked while carrying out their duties. Such criminal acts are unacceptable and must not be allowed to continue," Kenya Power said.
It reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of its employees and said it will continue strengthening measures to protect them as they serve communities across the country.
The utility firm also urged customers and members of the public to support its workforce as they continue delivering services nationwide, noting that cooperation is essential in ensuring safe and effective service delivery and encouraging peaceful engagement during field operations across all regions.
The company continues monitoring field safety operations and strengthening communication with communities across Kenya countrywide initiatives.
