Accused Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi arraigned at Kibera law court on October 14, 2025/JAMES GICHIGIThe prime suspect in the killing of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer attached to State House has been found fit to plead and has denied the murder charges before the High Court in Nairobi.
Kithuka Musyimi entered a plea at Kibera Court on Thursday after a mental assessment report from Kenyatta National Hospital confirmed he was mentally fit to stand trial.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him before Justice Diana Kavedza.
Musyimi, who appeared virtually from Nairobi Remand Prison, is accused of murdering GSU officer Ramadhan Khamisi on October 10, 2025, at around 8:10 am at State House Gate D along Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi.
Court documents state that the officer was on duty guarding the gate when he was allegedly attacked by a man armed with two traditional arrows.
Khamisi sustained severe injuries and was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
The prosecution opposed the accused’s release on bond, indicating that it would contest any application for bail.
Defence lawyer Martin Nabende told the court that he intends to present oral submissions on whether Musyimi should be released on bond.
Justice Kavedza directed that the bail application will be heard on May 12, 2026, when the matter will also be scheduled for pretrial directions.
The court further ordered that the prosecution supply all witness statements and documentary evidence to the defence before the pretrial date to allow adequate preparation.
Investigating officer Inspector Bashir Boya told the court that police recovered weapons believed to have been used in the assault, including the traditional arrows allegedly involved in the attack.
Court documents state: 'The respondent, who was armed with a bow and arrows that he had concealed in a blue sack, posing as a street dweller, advanced towards the GSU officer manning the search barrier, one Ramadhan Khamisi.'"
The prosecution maintains that the evidence collected links Musyimi to the alleged fatal assault on the officer who was guarding one of the State House access points at the time.
The case now proceeds to the next stage, where the court will determine whether Musyimi will be released on bond as the prosecution prepares to present its case during trial.
The matter is scheduled for mention on May 12 for the bail hearing and pretrial directions.
