The disagreement emerged during a Thanksgiving ceremony at the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, which has drawn criticism from a section of party members who alleged it was used as a platform to unveil aspirants eyeing elective positions in the constituency.
Koyoo criticised the handling of the event, describing it as a breach of party procedures and what he termed an attempt to sideline established leadership in Muhoroni.
“I was sidelined and only received a last-minute invitation,” Koyoo said, expressing frustration over the organisation of the function.
The legislator further claimed that Wanga attended the ceremony alongside individuals he alleged were aligned to certain aspirants, instead of engaging recognised ODM delegates from the area.
“As the party chairperson, she is expected to remain neutral and ensure fairness for all members. What we are seeing now raises serious concerns about internal democracy,” he said.
Despite his concerns, Koyoo downplayed any immediate political threat, maintaining confidence in his support base.
“I have been in politics long enough, and what I would term as attempts to impose candidates are not new to the people. Voters understand what is at stake and will make their own decisions,” he said.
Wanga, however, dismissed claims of division, insisting that ODM remains united and focused on future elections, including the 2027 General Election.
“The party is strong and united. We must remain focused on our collective goal and avoid actions that may derail our progress,” Wanga said during the event.
She urged members to remain loyal to the party leadership and emphasised the need for unity, even as her remarks drew mixed reactions from local leaders and grassroots officials.
